>From PMA (not the second paragraph...): Pentax Corp., Englewood, Colo. (303-799-8000), introduced two new SLRs to its ZX line. The Pentax ZX-L is designed with the novice and intermediate photographer in mind. The camera's "Auto Picture Mode" allows users to chose from among five shooting modes, depending on the type of scene, and the camera automatically selects the combination of aperture, shutter speed, focus distance, ambient light and action, to deliver the best exposure in any situation. A large, illuminated mode dial makes seeing the current settings easy, even in very dim lighting. The camera also includes the conventional AF modes-aperture-priority, shutter-priority, metered manual and bulb. The top 1/4,000-second shutter speed is impressive for a camera in this class, as well as offering other features normally found on more expensive SLRs, such as auto-bracketing, depth-of-field preview, AE lock, an infrared system to ensure correct focus in dim light, the SAFOX V phase-matching system, which gives the ZX-L predictive auto-focus capability, self-timer, five-mode data-imprinting, 1/125th-second flash sync. and a wide-frame AE system that includes spot metering, when Pentax M-, K-, or S-series lenses are used, the camera's switches to center weighted metering However, the camera's normal functions also are fully compatible with a number of the Pentax FA- and F-series lenses.
