I'm not surprised.  Once, while taking a trip through Maine, we
stopped at a small shack in the middle of nowhere (there's a lot of
"middle of nowhere" in Maine) for gas and some snacks.  Behind the
counter, hanging on the wall (no cabinet) were several dozen shotguns
and other assorted weaponry.  The ammo was under the counter.  Minding
the store was a kid that looked to be no more than 12.  It was a very
uncomfortable feeling and we were glad to leave.

Mind you, the kid was probably safe as can be, with a loaded 12 gauge
stowed beneath the cash register, and I bet he knew how to use it!
