I always upgrade the firmware. I figure there are probably a few tweaks in 
there that aren't mentioned in the description. It's never caused a problem, 
but I do wait a couple of weeks after announcement to make sure there's no 
complaint from the early adapters.

i suspect the root of your autofocus problems is in your use of screw-drive 
lenses that were developed for earlier cameras. But that's just a guess.
