FWIW - I'm able to attrach numerous woodpeckers - of the hairy & downey
ype - to my back yard by simply hanging a suet cake from a tree.

It's obviously the time of year for woodpeckers.
I've seen one on the tree in the front yard in the last week. And tonight
there were three on the telegraph pole in the corner of the back garden -
by the looks of them, one adult male, one juvenile, and one indeterminate.
I was tempted to drag out the big glass, but I was already grilling
steaks.
Maybe they'll turn up again over the next few days.
