Hoya originally only wanted the medical imaging division of Pentax, but took the whole company in an all or nothing deal, IIRC. They have gone on to turn the camera division into a profitable entity, which it certainly wasn't prior to the buy out. Personally, I think Ricoh is a better fit from a photographers POV than Hoya for a camera making company.
