BTW, I don't think Ford still owns Jaguar. It was losing money and Ford
sold them off.

Here to tell you my Jaguar Sedan XJ8 and my Roadster (XKR), both late model,
are at least as reliable as a Benz. (Own them too.) In fact, since Jaguar
was bought by some Yankees (Ford) their customer satisfaction has gone
through the roof, and warranty claims fallen drastically. ?The Sedan is
supremely dignfied. The Roadster? Sexy, well-made, non-fussy, occasionally
causing a way-to-young girl to smile and take a second look at the driver.
The Roadster is F A S T when the 13 psi Belt Driven Supercharger starts to
whine, in conjunction with the second fuel pump and the second air intake
opening up. ?And yet surprisingly, supremely comfortable on my daily 60 mile
commute.
? Granted that Before Ford (November 1989) ?, while Still Using Lucas
(Defunct 1996) and Smiths and other sub-standard British electrical
components, the Jags were as bad as, ?as, ?as, ?MG's, Triumphs, Austins, and
the rest of the horrid English cars foisted upon the public.
And the dinner-table comment is the Ford man went to Lucas et. al. and told
them their Mean Time Between Failure would have to exceed that experienced
by Bosch for Mercedes or Jag would quit and go German. "What? You'll abandon
British Electrical Genuis?" "Yup." Lucas couldn't meet specs -- and suddenly
the Jags had a fighting chance. ?Lucas is, after all, is the reason Brits
drink their beer warm -- Lucas made refrigerators. At least they are now
gobbled up by Goodrich and TRW and now defunct. But the Jag lives on.
? And before I leave my soapbox, 'hand-crafted' (as in Rolls-Royce) ?only
means that the parts didn't fit properly until the mechanic took a hammer,
crowbar and coarse file (I could use the tool's name, but it is naughty) to
the d_mned assembly to force it together. Something I have never had to due
on properly made cars. So, that calls for the Rolls-Royce ancient joke --
the triumph of files and crowbars over engineering.
