What a sad day, and farewell to a generous old gentleman and a wonderful
Goon. I had the pleasure of listening to the BBC Records collection Goon
Shows as supplied to RAF Gan Radio (Maldives Islands) and RAF Changi
(Singapore) during the 1970's. He wrote three wonderful books of his
exploits as a bombardier in WWII. I ordered his first book several weeks
before it hit the book shelves in London (1972 or 73 I think). Anyway,
people must have thought me nuts, as here I was sitting on the top of a
double-decker bus on my way back to RAF Northwood in Middlesex. I was
howling with laughter reading Spike's 'Hitler, My part in his Downfall'

Sadly, I had to leave behind my Goon tapes and Spike's books when we left
for Canada 2 1/2 years ago. I also had to leave behind a large collection
books on WWII Aviation history, mostly RAF/RCAF/Battle of Britain and
onwards.
(The only books I brought were a book signed by the surviving members of
Bader's Tangmere Squadrons, who I met in Worcester Guild Hall in 1998.
The other two, was a book written and signed by my father's Intelligence
Officers exploits after his escape from the Germans after being captured
with the 51st Highland Division at St. Valery), . And the official history
of the 51st as written in 1942 (Censored of course) signed by his CO at the
reunion at St. Valery(Dad died 6 months later).
