They produce a kind of glowing soft-focus look. My 35/1.4 often demonstrates it, for example in the recent pictures I shot in another pub: <http://www.web-options.com/YK/content/York_068_large.html>. It's some kind of optical abberation, but when you've paid that much for a lens you make a virtue of it.
