Igor,

I used five different Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lenses over the years, from the
pre-AI series that came with my Nikon F Photomic FTn to the AF-D
version in the middle 1990s. All were excellent, professional quality
lenses that I would put next to the best from anyone in the industry.
The only 50s I've used that I felt produced sweeter results are the
Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 and Contax/Zeiss Planar 50mm f/1.4 T*. The
Pentax M, A, F and FA 50mm f/1.4 lenses were all good performers (the
A, F and FA are the same optical formula) but not as good wide open as
any of the Nikons I had.

In Nikon's current line, they have the manual focus AI-S and autofocus
D series lens. I know these are optically identical and the
differences are the mount and AF drive. The S series lens is new;
might have different optics in addition to the newer AF mount with
in-lens focus servo.

I can't say what's different between them performance wise, but I
would have no hesitation buying any of them.
