I've also been by there on my way to White Sands - the Trinity site is open once each year to the public, don't know what day it occurs, but I suppose an internet search would reveal that.

I also think of the a-bombs when I hear or see the word "Trinity". But I
just caught the tail end of the Cold War, but I do remember "Duck &
Cover" drills in elementary school.

I've actually been there... well, close -- there is a narrow two lane road that cuts across New Mexico from the border with Texas til it hits
I-25 ... passes through Roswell and a little town called Carrizozo.
BEtween Carrizozo and the highway there is a Historical Marker.  Very
creepy just to stand there looking at it.
