That is, roads with a fault running under them. On Saturday we took a trip out to the Greendale fault, source of the 4th September 2010 earthquake (the 7.1 one that started everything).
http://www.multi.net.nz/greendale/ This fault is only about 15 mins drive out of town but you need to know where you're going to find it. We went around a few roads so there are 3 different locations covered here. Apparently this particular fault has set a record due to the amount of displacement compared to its length (about 4.5 metres at its maximum for a 40km rupture).
