Fastest I've been on my bike is 36mph, which I clocked on my GPS on a lovely
long downhill in Brittany 2-3 years ago. I could have gone faster, but I got
so shit scared that I slowed right down. I'll never win the TdF.

I did a similar pace a couple of years before that on a Roman road leading
into Dorchester. From the top of Eggardon Hill, which is an Iron Age
hillfort at about 250m, there's a long shallow descent to 70m over 10km to
just outside Dorchester. The road is more or less dead straight, and
deserted. An exhilarating ride.

The next day I fell off at 2mph and broke my wrist.
