I never partition the drives. If possible use the fastest drive (7200
rpm) for Windows and a second drive for the swap file. A second slower
drive for the swap file results in a faster system compared to one
(fast) drive setup.

For backup of photos from USB 2 USB a sync tool is handy for instance
archersoft dirsync
