Thanks mucho, Jack. I showed both because I  couldn't decide which I liked 
best. You expressed what I liked  subconsciously about each. :-) 

Shot straight downward last winter at the  old deck in the back, when it 
was covered in frost. (Deck in the back of the  house I bought. I will 
probably, eventually, tear it out. Although I like old,  weathered wood, I 
would 
prefer something less trippable in a deck. I'll probably  recycle the wood 
into raised planter boxes for veggies.)
