Pre WWII most cars arrived in Australia as a chassis and drivetrain and you would go to a local firm to have a body built. Holden's Motor Body Builders built bodies for GM, Ford & Dodge at various times. GM bought them outright in 1931 and renamed them GM-Holden's but the cars were still sold as Chevrolets, Buicks, Pontiacs, Vauxhalls and (briefly) Oldsmobiles. In 1948 the first locally built car was launched and it was sold as a Holden while the imported cars retained their brands.
