Would you believe... we had a recitation of the Bill of RIghts at the
dinner table this very evening??

It all started with one of the girls asking a question about "pleading
the fifth"... and then their dad & I trying to recall what each of the
first 10 amendments were all about... We managed to get the gist of
half of them before resorting to google for help.

Which was very educational of us, I think.

However, I think we may need to revisit the original question... And
figure out why does she need to know about her right to not
incriminate herself...?

Unfortunately, for far too many people the whole thing boils down to a single clause of one amendment.

For me, the most interesting amendment is the 27th. Originally proposed as part of the original Bill of Rights on September 25, 1789, it was finally ratified May 7, 1992 - 202 years 4 months later.

Of course, by then Congress had enacted (1989) the current AUTOMATIC system of pay increases, so they don't have to vote to give themselves a pay raise - essentially mooting the effect of the amendment.
