some species can't be distinguished from a photo, and there is large variation within species, sometimes blending between them in the wild, and yes there are many incorrectly identified plants in gardens and nurseries

i'm pretty sure mine is G. aristata because the nursery i got it from is strong on Colorado natives; G. grandiflora seems to be the species from which most of the decorative cultivars have been bred
