For whatever it's worth.

I drove up to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park yesterday; my long planned fall color photography road trip FIASCO!

Delayed the start by two days gathering all the equipment and snivel gear I'd need for an extended trip, and then left half of it stacked in my living room when I loaded the car. The most notable lack was I left my battery charger that plugs into the car at home. Not to mention all of my sleeping gear.

So, despite the late start, I ended up coming home early as well.

OTOH.

There's still some pretty good fall color up along the mid portion of Skyline Drive between US211 and US33. There was plenty of yellow & brown. A good bit of red too. And still a lot of green, so I think there's still time to see the color if anyone is going that way.

It was really crowded. Not quite bumper to bumper, but heavy traffic.

I arrived at Big Meadows just about sunset. There were deer out and about.

The deer along Skyline Drive are really habituated to having man around. If you take it slow you can walk up to within about 20 feet without spooking them. And if you do get a little too close they seem to walk away fairly slowly. I didn't see any raise the white flag and bolt.

If they're on the side of the road and you're inside the car, you can get a good bit closer. If you've got someone else to drive so you can sit in the passenger seat & concentrate on taking photos, you can get within 5 feet.

After that, I found an overlook & parked so I could set the tripod up next to the car window & experimented with taking star photos tripping the shutter with the remote.

I'll let y'all know if I got anything I think is worth looking at.
