When I was looking for my first SLR, back in 1966, I wanted a Minolta
101, because a friend had one and I was impressed with the ease of
operation. When I got to the main PX, however, they were all our of
the 101s, and the clerk showed me an Asahi Spotmatic. He told me that
Asahi was a smaller camera company, but that they were known for
superior glass. He showed me Asahi materials, which I found
unimpressive. Only when he gave me a Honeywell brochure, did I
understand and believe that the Spotty was a top camera. For the
first few years, most of the Pentax cameras sold in the US apparently
carried the Honeywell name, which was then highly respected.

In any event, I'm glad the PX clerk took the time to educate me about Pentax.
