Brian, at first glance I looked at the shadows & when moved back to
examine the picture as a whole I agreed with your comment. (I admit I am
a ruthless cropper). But I went back & looked again and I covered the
legs with an envelope and the picture became very sterile. So now I
agree with your conclusion. Dag was right all along. As he usually is IMHO

Sure does.
I doubt I could ever 'see' a composition like this; I'd want to crop out
the top figure. But somehow it balances the composition.
