Hey gang...

Here's a funny little story.

Years ago my grandfather gave me a tiny pair of binoculars that he had that I
had always coveted. They were so powerful for their size that I just couldn't
believe it!

I have had these little things for about 15 years now and have used them for
bird watching, concerts and sporting events. People see me using them and
want to try them out are always amazed at how such a tiny little pair of
binoculars can really bring you into the action.

So, the other day I brought them to work with me as I have many times in the
past. I use them at work to verify products on the top level of a racking
system in our huge warehouse. I always keep the glasses in their original
case which I went to open when something caught my eye. The case has a logo
embossed into the leather on the outside that looked terribly familiar.
Looking closer I couldn't believe that I had missed this for so long.

It was the Asahi Optical Company logo.

Sure enough these little babies were made by AOCO just after the war. In
fact, they were sold under the name "Jupiter" in the US and stamped "Made in
Occupied Japan."

The thing is, I've always loved these little things and I always admired
their build quality. They really are terrific little binoculars. But to find
out that they are made by AOCO before their first cameras is just too cool. I
just can't believe I never noticed this before!

Here's a couple pix:
