that's not a function of having a camera, it's a function of stupidity. Photography and travel are perfect partners - ham & egg, mutt & jeff, tits & arse, Charles & Diana, Greece & sound financial management. In my case I often go to places I wouldn't otherwise go to simply because I want to photograph them. And photographing a place makes me look at it and its people more closely, and makes me want to get involved in things I might otherwise miss. It means I have my eyes open, and see & experience more than I would otherwise. For example, when I went to Romania a few years ago I had the idea of photographing a village in Transylania known for its musicality. When I got there it was nothing but funerals, but I was invited to join people, photograph their funeral and visit all the houses in the village. I got humungously drunk and had a wonderful time. I would never have done that if I hadn't been inspired to take photographs. Mind you, I was so drunk the later ones are all out of focus.
