I'm surprised that you don't use that rather than buying the Sigma.

Thanks, Bill - This was one of those days when the sun would break out now
and then and really make the clouds look dark by contrast...

I'm embarrassed to admit it but it has been years since I used the A*
400 f2.8.  It just sits in a corner of my office in a Domke long lens bag.
I'm transferring old film scans off CD's (a laborious task) and in doing
that took a look at my old bird photos - both the keepers and the rejects.
It does give me a hankering to shoot some feeder birds at least with it.
