I spent a week on Mt. Washington in Feb '78 with 5 friends and an instructor in winter mountaineering technique. Tented near the Harvard Hut so we could go indoors to cook our food without gloves on (temp ranges from -20° F to +5°F). A healthy dose of the instruction involved anecdotes about people who just weren't thinking, who were fatigued, and/or were clueless as to climbing and survival techniques. That environment needs to be treated with respect.
