Larry,

There is a way of smoothing out tan lines without LR or PS.
It is done with "photos" (in the original, Greek, meaning of the word), 
and it is less technical but more natural.
And yes, it might be a bit more "graphic"... 

Are you sure it was not what she actually meant?
