Getting this out there a little early, but I know that PDML-ers may
have connections...

If you know anyone that has an Imacon film scanner that they are
willing to part with, I am looking. Ideally, I will not be purchasing
it until next summer, but since these don't come on the market just
every day, I would like to know about anything available as you hear
about it.

*Please ping me off-list.

The one thing that is clear to me is that Imacons can be a bit of a
white elephant and the prices dropping fairly rapidly in the U.S.. I
think this is due to several factors:
• Apparently you now have to send them to the UK to get them serviced (ouch)
• Service can be expensive
• Imacons seem to be more of a Mac-compatible product (and older Macs, at that)
• The latest flatbed scanners, like the recent Canon and Epsons offer
darn-good quality for a fraction of the price and have none of the
weird connection issues of the Imacons

Still, for the right price, I think I'd like an Imacon over an
alternative. For one thing, I have a Mac that would work with it
already. My son-in-law could use it for his Pentax 6x7 negatives, and
I'm getting a 6x17 camera late this winter... so my "need" is not
immediate, but I would appreciate it if you happen to see one on your
local Craigslist, have one, or know of someone who is selling for
whatever reason. Thanks in advance!
