This sort of thought has occurred to other PDML-er's several times before, and
usually a
few of us will chime in and say we've had A: Good/B: Bad experiences with
Pentax gear.

Lets see ... I got my first Pentax camera some time in the early 80s. These are the problems I can remember having with Pentax gear & repairs over that time:

SuperProgram in a rucksack that "fell" out of a truck & was run over by another truck. Repaired by a local guy who was "Pentax Authorized". Lens was a loss, but the repaired camera was still working last time I tried it, although it's been sitting on a shelf in my closet for about 7 years now.

LX that I lost the strap clips. Pentax sent replacements at no charge.

Auto 110 Super that just stopped working one day after I'd had it for about 20 years.

PZ-1p that has the problem with the trim around the battery door. I don't think there *is* a fix for that.

*ist-D that the media door just broke off one day. Pentax sent the part to my local "Pentax Authorized" repair guy who installed it at no charge to me. Held the door in place with clear shipping tape in the meantime.

AF540 FGZ that would only do manual mode right out of the box. Took about 3 months to come back from Pentax. It still acts flaky intermittently.

K1000SE that started doing funky things with the mirror return. It's been at the local repair guy who used to be "Pentax Authorized" for just about a year now. He found other problems, mainly a shutter that wouldn't keep proper time. I really should go bug him about that.
