Thanks, Brian - I'll look through the archives for that discussion about
image size, I'm sure there's interesting info there. I'll take a look at
Matrix as well, that is not one that I remember trying.

Yes- I'm using JAlbum for the PUG (as did Scott). I wasn't entirely
happy with the Chameleon template because I wanted to be able to make
the images 'clickable' so that images larger than the browser window
could be shown full size in a separate window. This involved designing
a new template, which looks a bit like Chameleon but there's no
Chameleon code present. It works the way I want but I haven't yet
worked out how to make multi-page albums with it.
I'm not sure that JAlbum is the ideal tool for a 'professional' web site
but there are plenty of templates to play around with and many are
highly configurable. One that I like is Matrix, although I'm not keen
on its default settings. If you're prepared to tweak the options, you
can get a very attractive looking gallery.
For my own site I designed the interface from scratch. I'm reasonably
happy with it except that it's a bugger to update and the images are
smaller than I'd use if I was designing it now (700 x 467 for landscape
format and 400 x 600 for portrait format). When I get time I'll try to
look at something simpler, maybe based around the Matrix template.
The PUG uses a max of 800 pixels on either side but, after considerable
discussion on this when I took over, images are displayed at a max
display height of around 536 pixels so that they can be viewed without
having to vertically scroll the image (that 'display height' can be set
to any desired value within the template settings). Clicking the image
produces the full size version. I think this works well - a lot of
people don't like having to scroll images - they like to see the whole
image, even if it means viewing at a smaller size. 800 pixels seems a
reasonable maximum size.
Cheers
Brian
