Exactly! You read my mind.

In addition, when I fly and try to minimize the weight and volume 
of the equipment to carry, I'd prefer to have fewer batteries with
higher capacity.

Currently, when I go to an event where I am doing considerable amount 
of flash photography, I have a set of 2500 mAh non-hybrids, and a 
set of "regular" hybrid eneloops as spares and as a backup for emergencies.
I usually freshly charge (top off) them all, right before the travel.

When I take the flash but don't expect much of use, I take only one set.
It would be convenient to have that set consisting of high-capacity and
low-self-discharge batteries.

That's what I am considering.
