It's rather onomatopoeic isn't it? How quaint!

A Boddies pub. That stuff certainly has a communicative effect. I used to
drink (lots of) it when I was a student in Manchester. First you get gabby,
then you go quiet, then you run for cover and start shouting for Raoul.
