Roman, others have already commented on the number of clicks it takes to get to a highdef image. I have a few more concerns as well, many of these connected with the thought that it is not clear who your intended audience is. There may be somewhat common and accepted conventions for navigation within a photo site, but what if someone does not know the conventions? On the opening screen, how do I know that the picture(s) I see are links to an underlying album? I can figure it out because you say "6 images" but otherwise there is no obvious clue that a) I should click the image in order for something to happen, and b) that I will see many more images appear once I click. On the album screen you require me to know the convention of hierarchical file naming in order to find my way Home. But once I go to an image in the album, you also use wide Up Arrow to get back to the album index page. Why not use both approaches no matter what level you are on? On the Home page and lower you have a strange to me icon of a jagged star with an embedded exclamation point. I don't know what that means or why you use it. On the home page I see you are starting to add additional album pointers. What is your intended organizational scheme? Given the size and layout, you will not be able to have more than eight albums visible. Will you limit it to eight? Require people to scroll down to see other albums? Or go with a hierarchical scheme, with Home Page links not to albums but rather to sets of related albums? E.g., you could have one set of lens-test samples, another of Scenics, another of Portraits, etc. Of course this will add to the key-click burden of actually getting to an image. And you shouldn't have more than 8 major categories or you will again require the viewer to scroll, a definite turn-off. I don't understand the Login bit on the left of the Home screen. Why should I or would I log in? Are you intending this to be a private member-only site? You need some explanation to go with that login section. Once I get to an image page, you also show thumbnails for preceding and next images. Why? Do you intend this to be the preferred mode of navigation from image to image? It fails when I get to the last image, and so then I have to go find an arrow or something to get out. I would rather have the arrows and thumbnails be in the same portion of the screen, supplementing each other for navigation. You offer me a chance to buy an image, but you also let me upload it to my facebook account. So why would I ever pay for it? On the image page you offer lots of technical details, and there is a show-exif button off at the top. Why? Is your audience fellow photographers who may care about this stuff, or is it people who might enjoy pretty pictures and maybe even buy one? I gather that you are building from someone else's template. I think that you need to think carefully about who the audience might be, think carefully about your assumptions about what they already know about navigating within such a site, think about what information you are presenting, and decide if this template will accomplish your intended purpose with your intended audience. stan -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
