Hi All,
Just a few days ago I was asking if anybody knows the difference between different Sandisk Extreme (class 10) SDHC cards. Not hearing from anybody, I decided to "go to the source". Oh, boy!... I think waterboarding should be allowed only for SanDisk "technical-support" representatives (TSR) ... It took me more than 30 minutes to get the information out of that guy. >From the accent, I may guess that Sandisk outsources its support (at least the 1st "line of defense") to India. His response for every question was starting with a standard, well rehearsed phrase always sstarting with the same. Something like: - (I) : What is the product number for the Sandisk Extreme SDHC HD Video Card? - (TSR): I will be glad to provide you with the answer to your question about the product number for the Sandisk Extreme SDHC HD Video Card. ....... - (I) : What is the product number for the Sandisk Extreme SDHC standard card? - (TSR): I will be glad to provide you with the answer to your question about the product number for the Sandisk Extreme SDHC standard card.... - (I) : What is the difference between them? - (TSR): I will be glad to provide you with the answer to your question .... Along this way, he gave me a bunch of incorrect answers, so that he had to change the answer later, when I indicated inconcistencies. The dry remainder: Previously, Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 cards were 30 MB/s, and Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 HD Video were 20 MB/s, but the new Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 HD Video cards are also 30 MB/s, and presumably, they will be the only type produced by Sandisk. [Personally, I doubt this last statement.] The item/product number for these cards is as follows: Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 HD Video (old, 20Mb/s): SDSDRX-nnnG-A21, where nnn is the card capacity, e.g. 008 for 8 GB, and 016 for a 16 GB card.) Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 HD Video - new, 30 MB/s: SDSDRX3-nnnG-A21 Sandisk Extreme SDHC class 10 "standard" cards: SDSDX3-nnnG-A31 or SDSDX-nnnG-X46 As far as I understood, the later of the two (-X46) is either from older batches or from the batches directed to certain retailers (e.g. Amazon). In response to why Sandisk website lists only SDSDX3-nnnG-A31, I've been told the they didn't have time to update the website yet... (I've observed a similar lack of information about SDHC cards a few months ago.) Anyway, - hopefully, this information would be useful to somebody else on the list.
