Watching that video, I get the feeling that the plane wouldn't have been flying 
for long if the pilot had attempted a turn sharp enough to return to Laguardia 
or take him to Terboro. That would have scrubbed of a lot of speed. The smooth 
arc of what was basically a glide appears to be what saved him. A skillful 
exhibition.
