I loved the color shot and I also thinks this works quite well. Some others have mentioned harshness and I agree it does look harsh, but as I recall the original color shot was quite brooding itself. I think this conveys that same eerie 'alien landscape feeling' quite well. If you show me a less harsh version I'll have something to compare it to and then could be swayed, but I like this one very much.
