Apologies for treading in your circles, Godfrey. :-)I too had a memory
of seeing a post from you on Exiftool, but when Ilooked through the
December archives again I couldn't find it. Lookedthrough again today
to make sure, but it's not there. I checked theNovember and October
archives for posts regarding Exiftool too, butfound nothing from your
hand. :-(
What you say above is very interesting. Am I right to think that ifyou
remove the LensID data, LightRoom will rely on other tags toidentify
the lens?
I have a Sigma 500/4.5 that doesn't identify itself properly. Not abig
deal since it's my only Sigma lens, but it's what I have that Ican
experiment with.
In a K-5 camera-produced DNG it appears in these tags (as listed by ExifTool):
---- XMP-aux ----  Lens = Sigma Lens  Lens ID = 3 0
---- ExifIFD ----  Lens ID = Sigma  Lens Kind = 0x18  Lens Type =
Sigma (this tag occurs twice in the readout)
I'd guess that ExifIFD:Lens Kind is a hex representation of
theXMP-AUX:Lens ID and one would have to clear both, and then replace
thetextual data with the full lens name. Do you think that sounds
right?

- who thinks it kinda sucks that image metadata is such a mess, but
isglad it exists at all.
