casting my mind back to when I was a kid, I'd teach them to get close and to
fill the frame with the subject. This helps to think about the frame and to
understand why the thing that's so prominent in the mind isn't necessarily
prominent in the frame. 

The second thing is teaching them why it doesn't come out properly - why the
exposure is wrong, then why the subject isn't in focus.
