Yes, I'm convinced the shadows are from the sun's reflecting off the ripples. 
Had I not metered off the body of the egret I can't imagine they would have 
been visible. They're presence is a big reason I posted the image.

I've been correcting the bobbled spelling with every reply, but I can see it's 
going to go on for awhile...and I deserve it.  ;)

JAck - were the "stripes" of light on the bird made from the ripples (as 
Paul surmised) or are they from something off camera to the left?
I though thte latter.
