It says that "Images greater than 900 pixels high will be automatically resized" so would uploading anything larger may not make a difference. It does not appear that they archive the original file so that does not seem to be a way to 'future-proof' your uploads. Yeah...I upload 900 pixels high; so any sharpening is not tampered by the resize.
