My guess would be that the new lens will have in-lens electronic
aperture control, rather than a mechanical actuator. The body will
presumably still work with (at least some of) the current lenses.

As for the other points raised: the reason I'm not going is because
the idea of a week of 12-hour days spent watching figure skating is
just not one that interests me, not because my camera is the wrong
size. And I know from previous experience from photographing events
in a large arena that I would want the 60-250; that's not 6" long.
While I could get the K-5, the 1.7xAF adapter and my old 135/f2.8
into the venue, there would be no way to get the 60-250 in. All
bags and pockets are likely to be searched. I suppose I could
have borrowed back the A* 200 I sold to Larry, had I been going;
that's under the 6" limit, and a very nice piece of glass to boot.

But there's no way my wife would want to carry that kit around all
day. And in any case the E-PL1 is a pretty nice camera; I'm sure it
will be more than up to the task of getting some souvenir images.
