Thanks to Paul Bob Frank Rick & anyone I might have forgotten to note,
for taking time to view and comment on my photo.
I only had time for 2 or 3 views of the statue because my hands were
freezing as I had left my shooting gloves at home. You all have shooting
gloves for winter. Right? I'm glad I got 1 good one.
Karl King and Meredith Wilson were both Iowans and very much aware of
each others work. Wilson certainly had a love for band music. King made
some of his reputation as bandmaster for Barnum & Baily. I don't know
that he ever sold instruments to school bands
Wilson is beloved in Iowa for the line "we're so by gawd stubborn we can
stand touching noses for weeks at a time - and never see eye to eye."
That man knew his Iowans.
During the summer the Karl King Band gives a performance every Sunday
evening at the local bandshell playing the marches of King, Sousa, and
others.
Something different for me.
I don't like to make photos of someone's art, but I do like this rendering of
Karl King the famous bandmaster. He was a student of John Phillips Sousa and
wrote many band classics that are still played today. This statue stands on the
town square of his hometown Ft Dodge IA.
