First of all, Tim, I really like your photo. The bright neon signs and car
lights stand out nicely against the black sky. Nicely composed, too.

As for your blog post, I don't get too hung up on definitions, classifications
or "genres". A good photo is a good photo. Period.

The contrary is also true, and it's no more evident than with so-called "street
photography". Every idiot with a camera (or phone) seems to think the world
will be interested in their banal, self-indulgent twaddle. Converting tedium
into black and white suddenly makes a photo artsy and deep.

That being said, there are many wonderful photos being taken on the street that
(as you say) tug at our heartstrings and and at their best even tell us a
little bit about urbanity and the human condition.

Dave's right, Juan is among the best I've seen, but that's not because he's a
good street photographer, it's because he's a good photographer - full stop. No
matter what he shoots it will be wonderful. His photos show sensitivity and
empathy and often great humour. Those are qualities that any photograph(er)
should have.

Cheers,
frank

That's more urban landscape than street photography. And it could have
benefited from being taken earlier in the evening when their was still
some ambient light in the sky.

Here are 2 of my fave street photographer:
