It doesn't look like it can . . . You are correct - the AF080C can use external power sources (also including the 110VAC AC Adaptor II and the six-C-cell TR Power Pack), but the AF140C is restricted (as is, without any user modifications) to AA batteries. (But, those batteries can last a long time...) > If not, are there any advantages of having the AF140C over the > AF080C? I'm mainly interested in it for Macro work, but I may use > it occasionally to get doughnut shaped highlights in eyes . . . Advantages: The 140 is more powerful. Its four flash tubes are in pairs that can also be ignited individually (for shadowless lighting) or all at once (for not-so-flat lighting). It has pairs of "modeling lights" that can illuminate a subject in the same modes as the flash tubes. Its lens mount adapters fit lenses up to 58mm (the 080 uses only 49mm and 52mm adapters, and this is important if you're going to be using a 100/2.8 Macro or a 200/4 Macro). Disadvantages: As noted, the 140 uses internal AA batteries only. Subjective: The 140's "modern" style will probably appeal to PZ-1P users, while the "blocky" 040 style is definitely more traditional. For me, the bottom line is that I used to own an 080 (and I enjoyed its power source flexibility) but now I own a 140 instead. (I just try not to gaze directly at the "zoomy" shape of its "control pack" - <g>.) Fred - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
