Hmmm...  You know, Daniel, I have ~never~ had this happen to me
(yet, anyway).

That is precisely why I don't care for UPS (or FedEx, etc.).  UPS
will either leave a parcel at my door during the day when I might
not be home (and the parcel can then get "lost"), or UPS will
require a signature from me before leaving it (and I never seem to
be home at the right time).  On the other hand, a package sent to my
P.O. box would simply sit at my local Post Office until I can
retrieve it (and sign for it, if necessary).

I guess the bottom line is that I would much rather have a package
delivered to my secure (so far) P.O. box, rather than to my
"unsecure" front porch.
