The short answer is hats have brims, caps have bills, or nothing. Also hats,
at least good ones, come in fitted sizes caps generally do not. A hundred
years ago gentlemen wore hats, ruffians wore caps so there is a snobby
distinction as well. BTW, I actually do like the look of Bill's cap,
wouldn't mind having one like it.
