Shot a few pics at the pool hall last night with the K-5 and DA* 50-135/2.8.
This one is f 3.5 @ 1/30th, ISO 10,000. I don't normally like to go beyond ISO
6400, but if exposure is good, noise is tolerable up to 12,800.

This is my favorite, even though it has a bit of motion blur. It's at f4.5
1/50th, ISO 12,800. She had just sunk the eight ball to win the game and was
walking back toward me and her friends at a bar table. At some point I
inadvertently bumped the stop up. F3.5 and a bit more shutter speed would have
been better.

Of course both of these shots were impossible, since the K-5 has crappy
low-light performance. But it doesn't know that, and I'm not telling. I'm going
to let it keep thinking it can show in near darkness.

Very cool shots, Paul.

Not to go all OT on you, but I just had to tell a little story about the wedding I took photos at last weekend. I did it strictly as a favor (though, also as an opportunity to get in a little practice) as the couple were both longtime, dear friends of mine.

Well, gift in exchange for agreeing to take the photos, the groom presented me with a gift. It seems a little over 20 years ago, when I was just old enough to legally drink, there was an old pool hall/saloon I used to frequent quite regularly -- to the point where I shot a pretty fair stick. One night, I was on my game and shooting against a guy I hadn't seen around the place before. We started betting a little, and I won, bet a little more, I won again, and again. The guy was clearly trying to shark me -- and me being a very young-looking 21, I must have seemed like a pretty easy mark.

Well, when it came time to settle up, the guy didn't have enough money. So, he ended up having to give me his cue as payment. About a year or so later, I ended up losing it to the groom while playing on his own table -- he had a Meucci Gambler that I coveted.

In any event, these 20+ years later, my old friend presented me with my beloved mid-70's vintage, 23 oz., custom Viking cue in exchange for photographing his wedding.

I may actually start playing pool again.
