I normally prefer b&w but in this case the high contrast colour wins, I think.

Seriously. Terrific shot. 

One teensy little thing: I find the light in his eyes a bit distracting. My 
eyes keep being drawn to that and away from the rest of the photo.

Other than that little thing, its as good a studio portrait as I've seen here 
in a while.
