Thanks, Bob, Don and Bob W! Bob W, the good news is that there is a fine two-lane paved road that goes to within a few thousand feet of where I took this image. The bad news:
First, one must fly to Kahului, Maui Second, the road has dozens of hair-pin turns, and goes from sea level to 10,000 feet above. Third, those last couple of thousand feet are a pretty much a vertical climb - at 10,000 feet of altitude. Fourth, at sunrise, it is DAMN cold and windy up there. It is worth it all, however!
