Quite nice. And, while I've never really used a modern pro lens, I do

Quite often, autofocus can work more accurately than manual focus. Assuming, of course, that it focuses perfectly on the right thing.
Autofocus, is also quite often faster than manual focus.

When I had my long hair cut off, the self portraits with my manual focus Minolta were quite a challenge. I put the camera on a tripod, leaned a broom up against a chair where I was going to stand, focused on the broom. Moved stuff out of the way, put the camera on self timer and then went to stand where the broom was. Of course, with film, I couldn't tell if I'd gotten the focus right until after the prints were developed.

(Though, I was quite taken with Larry's 77/1.8 when
he let me use it for a bit.)

I don't know if the 77 counts as a modern lens, as it dates from the film era. It is, however, quite possibly my favorite piece of glass so far.
