I'm sure I'm not "supposed to", but my favourite shots are the first three, of
the makeup artist doing his work and then the model looking very pleased at the
result. Brings some humanity to the whole fashion/modelling thing.

The fashion shots are wonderful, too. My fave is Paper.

Sounds and looks like a terrific afternoon. Certainly a success if we can judge
from the results.

Cheers,
frank

Subject: GESO Letting loose

Cut to the chase: http://goo.gl/mbTQU ... scroll down 7 shots to
where the B&W's start.

On the weekend I attended a workshop on directing and posing models in
the studio. A very cozy affair, our teacher Neeto da Silva held it in
her home studio that she sets up in a lovely low-rise apartment around
the corner from the old and iconic Maple Leaf Gardens in downtown
Toronto.

I met Neeto at the very first studio collaborative TF shoot I
attended. Another photog and I were hugely impressed by her easy
command of the set and the models, and discussed it with her. In some
follow up email she agreed to tailer a workshop for the other photog
and myself, and arranged to have two models and a makeup artist on
hand.

The shots in this GESO are mostly behind-the-scenes candids, but also
three shots from a "flying hair" sequence. Both of the models had
gorgeous, long hair and we were directed to use that and have fun with
it. It took me a while to really let loose and get creative, but I did
and I'm still feeling the high from this workshop, 3 days later.

For equipment junkies: K20D, DA* 50-135/2.8, ISO 100. f/8 give or take.
2 x Elinchrom BX500 NI monolights with Profoto softboxes (24" I think).

The candids are ISO 1600, various wide apertures (see the individual
shots), natural room light from floor to ceiling windows.

Comments welcome!
