I agree with your assessment, Tom. I think the point of most web site related contests is just to draw eyeballs or provide one more reason to come back, reload the page, whatever. In this case, it is also to spur more registrations for the privilege of entering or voting. No contest prize is given out of the goodness of any entities "heart". It is being offered in exchange for something of greater value to the contest holder (advertising exposure, word-of-mouth, etc.)
